Logitech Introduces Cloud-Based Handheld Gaming Device to Rival Switch and Steam Deck This October
Logitech has made a significant entry into the high-end handheld gaming market with the announcement of its cloud-centric gaming device, set to launch next month. The Logitech G Cloud Gaming Handheld boasts a seven-inch high-definition touchscreen display with a 60Hz refresh rate, accompanied by a comprehensive set of controls, including joysticks, buttons, triggers, and inputs. Scheduled for release on October 17, the device will be priced at $349.99, with a limited-time introductory offer of $299.99 for customers in the US and Canada. Although it operates on the Android platform and allows installation of apps from the Google Play Store, Logitech is emphasizing its streaming capabilities. The G Cloud will come pre-loaded with shortcuts to prominent cloud gaming services, including Xbox Cloud Gaming and Nvidia GeForce Now, which require subscription services. Additionally, it will feature Steam Link and Xbox Remote Play apps, enabling users to stream games from their PC or Xbox console. A Wi-Fi connection is necessary, with Logitech claiming support for up to 1080p graphics at 60 frames per second on its official product page. The partnership with Xbox has been highlighted, with the platform holder stating that handheld devices represent a natural progression in cloud gaming evolution. Following last month's announcement that TV partnerships, such as the one with Samsung, will be crucial in popularizing cloud gaming, Logitech's G Cloud is launching at a time when interest in handheld gaming devices is on the rise, with the Switch being the top-selling device in key markets like the US and Europe in 2022, and the Steam Deck's supply chain catching up with the growing demand for Valve's device.
