Former Rocksteady Developer Reveals Studio's Offer of Monetary Compensation Following Harassment Allegations, But No Acknowledgement of Wrongdoing

Kim MacAskill, a former scriptwriter at Rocksteady, has come forward stating that the studio offered her financial compensation to settle complaints arising from her time at the company, yet refused to issue an apology for any wrongdoing. In 2018, a letter signed by 10 of the 16 female employees at Rocksteady detailed unacceptable behavior, including sexual harassment and derogatory comments about women and transgender individuals. After the letter's existence was made public in 2020, MacAskill revealed herself as the author and claimed she lost her job in retaliation. She has since requested to be removed from the credits of Rocksteady's upcoming game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. MacAskill recently announced her withdrawal from consideration for a Women in Games Lifetime Achievement Award due to Rocksteady's involvement as a primary sponsor. She reiterated her assertion that she lost her job over the letter, stating, 'They've offered me money, but all I want is an apology.' MacAskill expressed her desire for genuine resolution, rather than monetary compensation, and criticized Rocksteady for prioritizing its image over meaningful change. In response to the allegations, Rocksteady initially stated that it had taken immediate action to address the issues raised. A Warner Bros. representative has since released a statement claiming that investigations found no evidence to substantiate the allegations and praising Rocksteady's commitment to creating an equitable and inclusive workplace.
