Twitch Streamer Sliker Exposed in $200,000 Gambling Scandal

A prominent Twitch streamer has come forward, admitting to deceiving his audience and fellow streamers by soliciting money under false pretenses, amassing at least $200,000 to feed his gambling habit. In a video confession, Abraham 'Sliker' Mohammed revealed that he would fabricate stories about his bank account being locked or Twitch payments being delayed to swindle his followers and peers out of money. However, he was secretly using the funds to bet on Counter-Strike: Global Offensive matches. After exhausting his own financial resources, including his Twitch earnings, Mohammed began borrowing money from other streamers. He has since vowed to repay his creditors in full. In response to the scandal, several streamers, including Félix 'xQc' Lengyel and Ludwig Anders Ahgren, have offered to reimburse individuals who were scammed by Mohammed, provided they can verify their claims. Meanwhile, other streamers, such as Imane 'Pokimane' Anys, Matthew 'Mizkif' Rinaudo, and Devin Nash, are pushing back against the proliferation of gambling content on Twitch. They argue that the platform's lax stance on gambling streams and sponsorships has created an environment where games centered around betting and gambling have become increasingly popular. According to StreamElements, the Slots category on Twitch has experienced significant growth, with a 66% year-on-year increase in viewership. Anys, Rinaudo, and Nash are now rallying support from up to 20 prominent streamers to issue a joint statement to Twitch, demanding that the platform take a stronger stance against gambling streams and sponsorships. If their demands are not met, the streamers have threatened to go on strike around Christmas. However, some streamers have criticized the response to Sliker's scam, arguing that similar energy and outrage are not being directed towards other pressing issues on the platform, such as hate raids, racism, homophobia, transphobia, and misogyny.
