EVGA Exits the Graphics Card Market

As initially reported by the YouTube channel Gamers Nexus, EVGA has announced that it will be ceasing production of video cards. The decision was made following a lengthy and troubled partnership with NVIDIA. According to EVGA, the choice to end the partnership was based on principle, rather than financial considerations. The company has no plans to collaborate with rival manufacturers AMD or Intel, nor does it intend to sell its business or expand into new product lines. In a statement on its forums, EVGA confirmed that it will not be carrying the next generation of graphics cards but will continue to support and sell its current products. Although video cards account for 78% of EVGA's revenue, the company claims that the partnership with NVIDIA was ultimately unprofitable. EVGA will continue to operate its other business segments, including power supplies and accessories. While the company does not anticipate laying off employees, it expects a degree of natural attrition as staff in the video card department and related areas take on reduced workloads. EVGA cited controlling behavior by NVIDIA, including pricing restrictions and the sale of Founder's Edition cards at discounted prices, as key factors behind its decision to exit the market.
