PSVR 2 Incompatible with Original PSVR Games
Sony has announced that the PlayStation VR 2 will not support games designed for the original PlayStation VR. This decision was confirmed by Hideaki Nashino, senior vice president of platform experience at PlayStation, during an interview on the Official PlayStation Podcast. According to Nashino, the reason for this incompatibility lies in the significant technological advancements of the PSVR 2, including inside-out hand tracking, eye tracking, new controller designs, and 3D audio capabilities. These features necessitate a distinct development approach for PSVR 2 games, setting them apart from their PSVR counterparts. Although original PSVR games will not be compatible with the PSVR 2, they can still be played on the PlayStation 5 using the original PSVR headset and a required adapter. The PSVR 2 is scheduled to launch in early 2024.
