Twitch Achieves 1.9 Billion Hours of Viewership in August
In August, Twitch surpassed its two-month viewership plateau of 1.7 billion hours, according to the monthly State of the Stream report by StreamElements and Rainmaker.gg. The platform recorded 1.9 billion hours of viewership, nearing the 2 billion-hour mark, a milestone not achieved since January. In contrast, Facebook Gaming experienced a decline in viewership compared to June, with 399 million hours watched, down from 424 million the previous month. YouTube Gaming, however, saw an increase with 305 million hours viewed, up from 292 million in July. The most-watched titles on Twitch remained relatively consistent, while YouTube saw Minecraft lead with 21 million hours viewed, and Apex Legends experienced a 30% surge in viewership, becoming the second most-watched game. According to StreamElements CEO and co-founder Gil Hirsch, 'Livestreaming viewership is recovering, with hours watched for both Twitch and YouTube gradually increasing over the past three months, following a period of decline after pandemic restrictions were lifted and the peak viewership during the quarantine period was no longer sustainable.'
