Tencent Acquires Minority Share in Mordhau Developer Triternion
Triternion, the studio behind the medieval combat game Mordhau, has secured a minority investment from Tencent Holdings, a prominent Chinese technology company. Although the specifics of the investment, including the stake percentage and amount, remain undisclosed, Triternion's CEO, Marko Grguorovic, has shed light on the intended use of the funds. 'The investment from Tencent will enable us to further capitalize on Mordhau's success, expanding its reach across multiple platforms,' he stated. 'Additionally, it will facilitate team growth and accelerate the development of new intellectual properties.' Founded in 2017, Triternion released Mordhau for PC in 2019, achieving significant commercial success with over two million copies sold, including 500,000 in the first week. The game is currently being developed for Xbox and PlayStation consoles. Tencent has a history of investing in numerous successful game development companies, ranging from minority stakes to full ownership. Recent investments include a stake in FromSoftware, the developer of Elden Ring, and an indirect increase in its stake in Ubisoft through the purchase of 49.9% of Guillemot Brothers Limited.
