August's Top Seller: Earth Defense Force 6 Leads in Cumulative Sales

Key highlights include: Switch OLED accounting for nearly half of all hardware sales in August, Nintendo selling 890,800 Switch games - the lowest figure in 2022 so far, and Sony accounting for over 25% of all game sales. Nintendo Switch Sports tops the list as the best-selling boxed game, with approximately 83,000 copies sold. Earth Defense Force 6 debuts at No.2, selling around 68,300 Switch copies in a few days. Although the Switch version didn't outperform Switch Sports, the combined sales of Earth Defense Force 6 across platforms reached 92,600 copies, making it the top-selling title of the month. Other notable entries include Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Xenoblade Chronicles 3, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, SD Gundam Battle Alliance, and Soul Hackers 2, with total Switch game sales reaching 890,800 in Japan. The number of PlayStation 4 titles sold was 206,900, and PlayStation 5 games sold surpassed 106,000, giving Sony a 25.9% market share. The Switch OLED made up 47.5% of all hardware sold, driven by the Splatoon 3 edition console, with total Switch unit sales at 325,700.
