Sequel to Breath of the Wild Announced with Title and Release Date at Latest Nintendo Direct

The highly anticipated follow-up to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild has finally been christened The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, with a confirmed release date of May 23, 2023, for the Nintendo Switch. The announcement was made during the latest Nintendo Direct, where the company also shed light on several other upcoming titles. Initially intended for a 2022 release, the Breath of the Wild sequel was delayed to spring 2023 earlier this year. In addition to Tears of the Kingdom, Nintendo confirmed that Pikmin 4 is in development, slated for a 2023 launch, although a specific date has not been provided. The company further revealed that a high-definition version of the classic Nintendo 64 game GoldenEye 007 is headed to both Nintendo Switch Online and Xbox Game Pass sometime in 2023, putting an end to speculation. The Nintendo Switch Online service will also see the addition of several titles from the Mario Party and Pokémon Stadium series, as well as Pilotwings 64. The Direct event was rich in JRPG news, with the announcement of a new Fire Emblem game scheduled for January 2023 and Octopath Traveller 2 set to follow in February. Fans of farming simulations also received good news, with Phoenix Labs unveiling Fae Farm, a 'cozy' farming game, and Square Enix providing glimpses into life-simulation games Various Daylife and Harvestella, slated for release in September and November, respectively. Furthermore, Nintendo showcased several remasters, including a new installment of the 1996 farming simulation Story of Seasons, scheduled for next summer, and a remaster of Tales of Symphonia, confirmed for early 2023. Remakes of the tactical RPGs Front Mission 1 + 2 are also in the works. The Switch will also see the release of several indie titles, including the isometric action game Tunic, the roguelike brawler Sifu, and the co-op adventure It Takes Two. Additionally, four Resident Evil games will become available on the Switch via cloud gaming, with Resident Evil Village launching on October 28, and Resident Evil 7 Biohazard, Resident Evil 2, and Resident Evil 3 following later in 2022. Lastly, Nintendo announced updates for Mario Strikers: Battle League and a free golf update for Nintendo Switch Sports, both of which are due during the holiday season.
