Keywords Studios has announced the creation of FreeAnimal, a consolidated entity that brings together seven of its previously separate creative agencies under one roof. The purpose of this new structure is to provide developers, publishers, and brands with a single, streamlined point of contact for all their creative and marketing needs. The seven companies that now operate as FreeAnimal are the creative studios Ichi, KWM, Fire Without Smoke, and Gnet, as well as the media‑production houses TrailerFarm, Maverick, and Big Farmer.

Together they form a geographically diverse network with offices in Los Angeles, London, Brighton, Montreal, and Quebec, allowing the agency to serve clients on both sides of the Atlantic and across North America. Each of the seven firms posted coordinated announcements on LinkedIn, framing the integration as the beginning of a new chapter in which they will function as a single creative agency. Existing contracts with current clients will continue unchanged, but any new work will be sourced from the combined talent pool and resources of the FreeAnimal organization.

"Collectively, we work with the world's most ambitious gaming brands," said John Rosenberg, Global Head of FreeAnimal. "By fusing seven agencies' perspectives, geographies, and experiences from across the games industry, we've created a wildly effective creative organisation that combines boutique strike teams with global scale." Rosenberg added that FreeAnimal follows a philosophy he calls "The Right Team for Every Game," which means assembling the appropriate specialists at the precise moment a client needs them, thereby addressing the specific challenge at hand with maximum efficiency.

The formation of FreeAnimal fits within a broader, long‑term strategy that Keywords Studios has pursued since its founding in 1998. Originally a small outsourcing operation, Keywords began an aggressive acquisition campaign in 2014, starting with the voice‑production studio Liquid Violet. Over the ensuing years the company has added roughly 70 businesses to its portfolio, expanding its capabilities across a wide spectrum of services that now include audio production, art creation, localisation, quality assurance, functional testing, engineering, player support, trailer production, marketing, and data analytics. Recent additions to the Keywords family illustrate the company's continued focus on strengthening its position in the interactive‑entertainment space.

In 2024 the group acquired Certain Affinity, a co‑developer on the Halo franchise, and Wushu Studios, a work‑for‑hire studio that specializes in high‑quality game development. Earlier in the year Keywords also merged two of its public‑relations agencies—Fortyseven Communications and Indigo Pearl—after Fortyseven opened a new London office, further consolidating its communications capabilities under a single brand. FreeAnimal's launch is expected to generate several tangible benefits for both Keywords Studios and its clients. First, it simplifies the client experience by reducing the number of separate points of contact; a publisher can now approach one agency for everything from concept art and cinematic trailers to social‑media campaigns and community management.

Second, the combined talent pool allows the agency to assemble bespoke teams that draw on the strongest skill sets from each of the original firms, ensuring that each project receives the most appropriate expertise. Third, the global footprint of the new agency means that time‑zone challenges are minimized, and local market insights can be applied more effectively across regions. Industry observers have noted that the move reflects a broader trend toward consolidation in the gaming services sector, where larger entities are seeking to offer end‑to‑end solutions rather than a patchwork of specialist providers. By uniting its creative agencies, Keywords Studios is positioning FreeAnimal to compete more directly with other full‑service studios that handle everything from game design to post‑launch support.

Looking ahead, FreeAnimal plans to leverage its integrated structure to explore new forms of creative collaboration, such as cross‑disciplinary workshops that bring together artists, writers, and data analysts to develop innovative marketing narratives. The agency also intends to invest in emerging technologies—like real‑time rendering and AI‑assisted content generation—to keep its production pipelines at the cutting edge. In summary, the establishment of FreeAnimal marks a significant milestone in Keywords Studios' evolution from a niche outsourcing firm to a comprehensive, globally distributed creative powerhouse.

By merging Ichi, KWM, Fire Without Smoke, Gnet, TrailerFarm, Maverick, and Big Farmer, the new agency promises to deliver a more cohesive, efficient, and adaptable service offering for the gaming industry's most ambitious brands.
