UK Retail Sees Nintendo Switch Games as Top-Grossing Entertainment Product of 2022 with £88.7m in Sales
According to a recent report by the Entertainment Retailers Association, physical Nintendo Switch games have generated the highest revenue among all entertainment products in the UK retail market so far in 2022, with sales amounting to £88.7 million since the start of the year. This figure represents a 12.5% decline compared to the same period last year. PlayStation game sales, which include both PS4 and PS5 titles, reached £79.6 million, marking a 6.5% year-over-year increase. However, PlayStation slipped to third place in terms of revenue, surpassed by vinyl album sales, which grew 6.5% to £80.9 million. Xbox game sales, encompassing Xbox One and Series X|S, ranked seventh with £17.8 million, down 14.3% from the previous year. The combined retail revenue for video games totaled £186.6 million, significantly exceeding the revenues of the music and film/TV sectors, which were £149.8 million and £118.9 million, respectively.
