Long-Time PlayStation Hardware Architect Masayasu Ito Announces Retirement

Masayasu Ito, a renowned figure at Sony Interactive Entertainment, is set to retire at the end of the month. The news of his departure was initially confirmed to Bloomberg, followed by a formal announcement on the company's corporate website. Ito's last day at Sony will be October 1, 2022, marking the culmination of a distinguished career spanning decades. Having joined the company in 1986, the 60-year-old executive vice president initially worked on in-car audio equipment before transitioning to the PlayStation division in 2000. During his tenure, Ito played a pivotal role in the development of several iconic consoles, including the PlayStation 4, PS4 Pro, and PlayStation 5. Additionally, he was involved in designing peripherals for the PlayStation 2 and oversaw the design of the PlayStation Portable. Following Ito's departure, Lin Tao, currently a director at Sony Interactive Entertainment, will assume his responsibilities.
