Lockwood Publishing to Reduce Workforce by 15%
Lockwood Publishing, a games company, is expected to cut 15% of its workforce by the end of the day, as reported by The Gamer. Current and former employees have revealed to the publication that 34 roles are at risk of being made redundant. This move comes nine months after the Independent Workers' Union of Great Britain (IWGB) accused Lockwood of unlawfully firing 33 staff members. CEO Halli Bjornsson announced the new layoffs, attributing the decision to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, although the explanation was not fully detailed. An employee has criticized the CEO's salary in response to the announcement, suggesting that he should take a voluntary pay cut to demonstrate his commitment to saving the company money. It was previously reported that Bjornsson's annual salary was $360,000, following the employee firings in December 2021. At the time, Bjornsson expressed regret over the layoffs, stating that the tough decisions were necessary to safeguard the future of the business and secure the roles of as many employees as possible. Earlier this year, in March, Lockwood opened a new office in Cambridge.
