Activision Blizzard Faces New Labor Practice Allegations from Communications Workers of America

The Communications Workers of America has lodged a complaint against Activision Blizzard, alleging unlawful employee surveillance during protests and disruption of internal chat channels where staff were discussing labor issues. According to a report by Fortune, the complaint also states that the company threatened to limit access to other internal messaging platforms where employees were discussing wages and working conditions. The National Labor Relations Act protects employees' rights to discuss pay and participate in protests without being surveilled. In response to these allegations, an Activision Blizzard representative stated that the CWA is presenting a misleading picture of the company, ignoring the facts, and that their efforts are hindering the company's ability to shield employees from disrespectful comments. This complaint is one of several labor practice allegations the CWA has made against Activision Blizzard since last year, including a complaint filed in September 2021 alleging illegal union busting tactics, which was later withdrawn due to a technicality. In April, The Verge reported that the CWA had filed a lawsuit claiming that employees received threats for discussing the company's lawsuit on Discord.
