UKIE, in collaboration with Discord and GameFlex, has unveiled a new educational venture called the Go To Market Academy, specifically designed to assist independent game studios operating out of the United Kingdom. This business‑focused programme is tailored for developers who are in the early phases of their projects and who need structured guidance on how to bring their games to market while fostering vibrant, sustainable player bases. The Academy’s core mission is to arm fledgling studios with a practical toolkit for constructing comprehensive go‑to‑market (GTM) plans and for cultivating communities that will support their titles over the long term. By combining theoretical instruction with hands‑on activities, the programme aims to bridge the gap that many indie teams encounter: having a great game concept but lacking the know‑how or resources to reach and retain an audience.

The curriculum is divided into six distinct online modules, each concentrating on a critical component of the GTM process. Participants will begin with diagnostic assessments and data‑driven insights that help them understand their target demographic, market positioning, and competitive landscape. Subsequent modules delve into the creation of a robust marketing strategy, the execution of multi‑channel campaigns, and the effective use of Discord as a hub for community interaction.

The final sections address studio branding, visual identity, and the articulation of a compelling narrative that resonates with players and press alike. To enrich the learning experience, the Academy will feature guest speakers drawn from the wider games industry, including successful indie developers, marketing veterans, and community managers.

These experts will share real‑world case studies, offer feedback on participant projects, and answer questions in live Q&A sessions. The programme is limited to a small cohort of ten to twelve studios, ensuring that each team receives personalized attention and ample opportunity for peer networking. The inaugural cohort will kick off with an in‑person gathering at EGX, which takes place within the MCM Comic Con venue in London next month. This opening event will allow participants to meet one another, meet the mentors, and set the stage for collaborative learning.

Following the launch, the Academy will continue with a series of virtual workshops scheduled throughout November and early December. These online sessions will combine lecture‑style presentations with interactive breakout rooms where studios can work on their own GTM plans under the guidance of instructors. Throughout the programme, participants will be tasked with developing a shared case study that reflects the challenges and opportunities unique to their games. The learning journey will culminate in a second face‑to‑face event, during which each studio will present the GTM strategy they have refined over the course of the Academy.

This final showcase will not only provide valuable feedback from industry veterans but also serve as a platform for studios to attract potential investors, publishers, and community partners. Studios interested in joining the Academy can submit an application via the provided link, with the deadline set for 30 September 2026. Selection criteria will focus on the originality of the game concept, the readiness of the development team, and the potential impact of a well‑executed market plan. "Go‑to‑market planning is where a lot of promising games fall down, not because studios lack good ideas, but because they haven't had the time or support to build the audience and community that gives those ideas a chance to flourish," explained Nick Poole, CEO of UKIE.

"The Go To Market Academy gives indie studios the space to work through that properly, with direct input from Discord on a platform that’s become central to how games communities actually form and grow." Mauro Sanna, Discord’s Director of Public Policy for EMEA, added, "The UK's indie games scene is full of talent and opportunity, and we're delighted to partner with UKIE to help it thrive. We're excited to help this group of UK developers learn how to make the most of Discord to connect with our highly engaged gaming audience, build communities and grow their games." By integrating Discord’s community‑building tools with structured business education, the Go To Market Academy aspires to empower UK indie developers to transform innovative ideas into commercially viable products. The initiative reflects a broader industry trend toward providing targeted support for smaller studios, recognizing that sustainable growth often hinges on strategic marketing, audience engagement, and brand development. With the Academy’s blend of expert mentorship, practical modules, and real‑world networking opportunities, participating studios will leave the programme equipped not only with a polished GTM plan but also with the confidence and connections needed to navigate the competitive gaming market.

Overall, the Academy represents a concerted effort to nurture the next generation of British indie games, ensuring that creative talent is matched with the strategic insight required to reach players worldwide.
