Frontier Developments announced a landmark set of financial results in its latest June trading update, highlighting a dramatic uplift in profitability and revenue across its portfolio of simulation and theme‑park games. The company reported that adjusted operating profit for the fiscal year 2026 climbed 62 percent to reach £21.4 million, marking the highest level ever recorded in Frontier’s history. This impressive jump was driven by a combination of strong market performance, disciplined expense control, and a boost from larger tax and expenditure credits that the firm was able to secure during the year.

In addition to the headline figure, Frontier noted that the adjusted operating profit would have more than doubled on a year‑on‑year basis if it were not for a one‑off £3.9 million gain that stemmed from the sale of publishing rights in the prior financial year. By stripping out that irregular item, the underlying operating earnings still show a remarkable increase, underscoring the sustainable nature of the growth trend. Revenue also rose sharply, with total turnover climbing 16 percent to £104.8 million. The bulk of this revenue uplift can be traced to the continued success of flagship titles such as Jurassic World Evolution 3, as well as the ongoing popularity of the Planet Coaster and Planet Zoo franchises.

Both of those series have cultivated dedicated fan bases that consistently generate strong sales, downloadable content purchases, and in‑game micro‑transactions, all of which contribute to the top‑line expansion. Operating profit, which includes a one‑off transitional tax credit of £4.4 million, surged 97 percent to £25.0 million.

Frontier described this result as a clear reflection of solid underlying trading performance combined with the temporary tax benefit. Even after adjusting for that credit, the operating margin remains markedly higher than in previous years, illustrating the effectiveness of the company’s cost‑discipline initiatives and its ability to extract greater value from each product launch. The update also highlighted several strategic moves on the leadership front. In July, Frontier appointed Dan Lazarides as its new chief marketing officer, bringing fresh perspective to the brand‑building and community‑engagement functions.

Meanwhile, founder and long‑time president David Braben announced that he will transition to a non‑executive director role on 1 October 2026, while retaining his titles as president and founder. Braben’s shift signals a planned succession that aims to preserve the company’s creative vision while allowing him to focus on broader oversight responsibilities. Looking ahead, Frontier disclosed a significant partnership with Disney, under which the studio will develop and publish a new title that leverages Disney’s extensive intellectual property portfolio. This agreement is part of Frontier’s long‑term roadmap to diversify its game slate and tap into globally recognised brands, thereby expanding its reach beyond the existing simulation niche.

On the product pipeline, Frontier confirmed that Planet Zoo 2 is slated for release on 13 October 2026, promising an evolution of the beloved wildlife management simulation with richer ecosystems, enhanced graphics, and deeper gameplay mechanics. Additionally, the studio announced that Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Deathwatch will launch before the close of FY27, adding a tactical, turn‑based experience to the company’s growing catalogue. A notable focus of the company’s future strategy is the development of a new content‑management‑system (CMS) game built around Frontier’s own intellectual property. The project is described as being "in full development and on track," with the ambition to deliver roughly one CMS‑style title each year.

This initiative reflects Frontier’s commitment to creating reusable frameworks that can accelerate game production while maintaining high quality. CEO Jo Cooke summed up the year’s achievements, stating: "FY26 was a landmark year for Frontier. We delivered record financial performance, demonstrated the strength of our CMS strategy, and continued to invest in the world‑class franchises our players love, supporting vibrant communities and long‑term engagement across our portfolio. With a strong balance sheet, a talented team, and an exciting roadmap ahead, we are well positioned to deliver sustainable growth, enduring player value, and long‑term returns for our stakeholders." President David Braben added his perspective, expressing pride in the collective accomplishments since founding the company in 1994 and confidence in the new leadership: "I am immensely proud of what our talented teams have achieved together since I founded Frontier in 1994, and excited about the opportunities ahead.

I have tremendous confidence in Jo as CEO to build on Frontier's strong foundations and deliver long‑term success, together with the excellent leadership team. This transition allows me to concentrate on what I can do to help that journey, including oversight of our games, and I look forward to continuing to support Frontier and Jo in the years to come."
