Steam Introduces New Guidelines for Visual Assets, Limiting Text Usage
Steam has revamped its visual asset guidelines to improve clarity for customers. According to Valve, from September 1, 2022, banner images should only include game artwork, the game's name, and official subtitles, excluding review scores, awards, discounts, promotions, and miscellaneous text. This rule applies to all store graphics and non-compliance may limit a game's visibility and eligibility for Steam sales and events. The reason behind this move is to avoid isolating non-English speaking users, as additional text is usually in English. However, exceptions will be made for major updates or new content, but with the condition that any text must be localized into the same languages supported by the game, using the 'Capsule Artwork Override' feature, limited to one month.
